Childhood Trauma & Its Lasting Effects
Childhood trauma can affect how the brain and body respond to stress, emotions, relationships, and safety later in life. Experiences such as abuse, neglect, instability, loss, violence, or growing up around addiction can shape coping patterns and increase the risk of mental health or substance-use struggles. Trauma does not excuse harmful choices, and it does not define a person’s future. With support, therapy, healthy relationships, and new coping skills, healing is possible.
